A Titusville man who broke into a Titusville mosque and left a slab of raw bacon now faces 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges, the state attorney's office said.

This implies he simply broke in and left a slab of bacon inside, but he did a lot more than that. As reported in the Fox News article cited here and as seen in the surveillance video, he also used a machete to smash windows, cameras, and lights within the mosque.

“He entered a plea deal and plead guilty to vandalizing the mosque itself with hate crime enhancement, making it a felony,” said a spokesman for the State Attorney’s Office Todd Brown. “He waived his right to a pre-sentencing investigation.”

As noted in the press release from the State Attorney's office, he was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender, meaning he had to have been convicted of at least two prior felonies. Even without other factors, that carries a minimum sentence of 10 years for a third degree felony.

Article claims that man got 15 years in jail for breaking into a mosque and leaving bacon, suggesting that this is a disproportionate punishment. I suspect his real sentence is not this high, or there's other factors in his sentencing, like prior arrests and convictions, which the article does mention.
